Ways to relax that cost nothing (or next to nothing).

Life is about enjoyment. It’s also best lived when there’s balance. It’s important to take time to relax. And relaxation doesn’t have to be hard or expensive. There are simple ways to clear your mind and rejuvenate your body. Here are just a few:

DRINK SOME HERBAL TEA: Caffeine is great in the morning but can also add to jitteriness. Herbal tea is a wonderful way to take a moment, slow down, and enjoy the soothing taste of herbal tea. Chamomile is ideal for relaxation. But there is a wide variety of herbal teas that don’t contain caffeine so you can enjoy them anytime.

MEDITATION: Simple meditation done on a consistent basis has some real benefits. Even for 10 minutes at a time, every day is worth it. worth it. Learning how to simply focus on breathing and identify distracting thoughts and let them float away like clouds is very rejuvenating.

TAKE A WALK: Even a simple walk to get the mail or around the block is a wonderful and way to help your body help your mind relax. Taking 30-minute walks at least three times a week is a good goal to strive for. It’s great exercise. Perhaps you can walk with a neighbor or friend. Sometimes it’s easier to exercise when you have someone doing it with you.

JOURNALING: Writing your feelings in a journal is a nice habit to get into to release stress and be able to start fresh the next day. If you only start by writing 1 word, it’s worth it. Soon, you’ll be writing sentences and filling pages in no time. There are beautiful journals online to buy or you could use the notes section of your smart device.

READ A BOOK: Sitting down with your favorite books or new books to read is an easy way to get away from the distractions of technology and unwind.

WATCH YOUR FAVORITE MOVIES: These days, everything could use a laugh or the comfort of a favorite movie. See what’s streaming online or watch TCM has on. Distraction is always a good way to put aside the cares of the day and just escape into movie. Streaming services have so many to choose from no matter what genre you like. Make some popcorn, or grab a healthy snack, cuddle up on the couch and enjoy.

TAKE A BREAK FROM THE NEWS: The abundance of 24-hour news can be overwhelming. It can be stressful to watch it every day. Give yourself some non-news days to focus deliberately on yourself. You’ll find some real peace. By turning off the tv and doing other things.

DO SOME DECLUTTERING: Clutter can also be a source of stress. You might some decluttering to create a more tranquil atmosphere for yourself. The less is more philosophy goes a long way in creating a serene environment that pleasing to the eye and the soul. Start out easy. Perhaps a drawer at a time. There’s such a sense of accomplishment by getting more organized at home.
