The meaning behind Veterans Day

November 11th, 2021

Memorial Day’s purpose is to honor military members who have died, while Veterans Day recognizes the service of ALL America’s veterans (those who have served or are serving.) It’s an important day to reflect on the brave men, women, and families who have shown such courage and provided us with a real example of bravery. Veterans day has a long history going all the way back to 1918. Where on “the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, was declared between the Allied nations and Germany in World War I, then known as the Great War.” It became a Federal holiday in 1938. Every year at 11am on November 11th, a wreath is laid at the tomb of the unknown soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery. On behalf of everyone at NoHo Senior Arts Colony, thank you to all veterans past and present for serving our nation.
