Juneteenth is Official!
June 18th, 2021
It’s official! Juneteenth is now an officially recognized Federal holiday. It took a long time, but we’re glad this important milestone is recognized. This is a really big deal. Originating in Galveston, Texas in 1865, Juneteenth celebrates the end of slavery in the United States. It also celebrates education and achievement. This is the first new Federal holiday since Martin Luther King Day was declared back in the 1980s. Learn more now about the history of Juneteenth. A simple idea to celebrate this day is to support an African-owned restaurant or business. On behalf of everyone at NoHo Senior Arts Colony, have a happy and safe Juneteenth!
