How to take care of your pup during warmer weather
August 6th, 2020
Our furry friends definitely need special consideration when it comes to summer heat. Just like us, they can really feel it. NoHo Senior Arts Colony is a pet-friendly community and we love pets. Besides utilizing your air conditioning in your residence, here are some tips to help you and your pet stay cool. Talking your dog for a walk is good exercise, but the pavement/sidewalk might be too darn hot. Feel the sidewalk with your hand. If it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for them. Aim for cooler times of the day like early morning or towards sunset. Also, some dogs require sunscreen, believe it or not. Check with your vet to see if your pup needs this. Make sure to have multiple bowls of fresh water for them throughout your residence. Staying hydrated is important. Also, brushing your pets on a daily basis is good to remove shedding hair that can keep heat in. A brush we really like is the Furminator. It helps get rid of the undercoat and it’s easy to use and comes in a variety of types for dogs AND cats. You should also be aware of signs of heat stroke in your pet. They can include excessive panting, excessive drooling, reduced or no urine production, rapid heart rate, bright red tongue, vomiting, and more. Be on the lookout for any of these symptoms and be sure to contact you vet right away if you notice any.
