Do crossword puzzles really keep our minds sharp?
July 14th, 2020
While crossword puzzles do help with cognition and the ability to find words and increase our vocabulary, are they really the end-all for keeping our brains sharp and active? Sure, they are fun and it’s extra rewarding to be able to solve them, but what else can we do to exercise our brains? Physical exercise has a tremendous effect on increasing neurons and the connections of neurons in our brains. You don’t have to overexert yourself either. A brisk walk 3 times a week for at least 30 minutes will get the job done. Learning something new is also a proven way to help keep your brain in shape. For example, try learning another language, or words in another language, learn a new computer program or take an online class. It’s this combination of consistent things, physical and intellectual, that will keep your mind happy and growing.
