SING is the story of a koala who produces a singing competition in the hopes of saving his failing theatre. This animated story features the voices of Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, and more. WHY HIM stars Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston as a protective dad when he meets his daughter’s more than ecentric boyfriend played by James Franco. The movie theatre closest to NoHo Senior Art Colony is Laemmle NoHo 7. Still in the area and close by are Cinemark NoHo Theatre and Regency Valley 6 Plaza.

Looking for an eclectic and trendy mix of delicious food, creative shopping, and pop-up excellence? Look no more. Smorgasburg is an increasingly popular event which features food vendors, cool pop-up booths, fun events, and much more. It takes place in downtown Los Angeles at the five-acre site of the weekday Alameda Produce Market. Hours are 10AM-4PM. It has been getting rave reviews and is part of the ROW DTLA development to revitalize the city with over 30 acres of historic buildings.
Now though January 2, 2017, enjoy an entire exhibit featuring the work of CARtoons magazine at LACMA. Published from 1951 through 1991, this popular magazine produced right here in Los Angeles, featured everything automotive and was “the only humor magazine in the world for the lovers and owners of cars.” There were stories about hot-rods, drag racing, muscle cars, makes and models from Chevys and Mustangs to Corvettes, and even imaginary and fantastic vehicles. If you love cars, humor, hand lettering, and original art, this LACMA show is for you. Take a trip down memory lane at an exhibit celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Sunset Strip. WeHo Arts, and the city of West Hollywood are is commemorating with a series of events and exhibits as part of a program called ‘There’s Something Happening Here.’ This exhibit of photographs by Henry Diltz is also titled “There’s Something Happening Here…” and features many of the musicians and performers that were integral to the music scene of the Sunset Strip in the late 60s and 70s. His talk will recall personal anecdotes about the subjects of his photographs. The exhibit will be on view during regular operating hours from October 19, 2016 through May 3, 2017 at the WeHo Arts Gallery Space at the West Hollywood Library. Celebrate and honor veterans on Veteran’s Day November 11, 2016. The San Fernando Valley’s Veterans Day Parade begins at 11:11am on Mission Blvd. and Laurel Canyon Blvd. in the City of Mission Hills. It will honor those past and present who have given our country freedom and security. Enjoy festive marching bands, special wartime dedications, and camaraderie. The Los Angeles Red Nation Film Festival includes important films that break the walls of racism and stereotypes with true Native American voices, purpose and insight. These film makers are creating new awareness as well as wonderful art intended to introduce them to a global audience. The Festival runs from November 11-21. Enjoy classic theatre at USC’s School of Dramatic Arts production of Romeo and Juliet. This signature Shakespeare play features the story of feuding families, true love, passion, and ultimately, fate. The event takes place at the Bing Theatre located at 3500 Watt Way in Los Angeles. If you love pop art, you have to check out the Roy Lichtenstein exhibit at Skirball in Los Angeles. Lichtenstein is one of the pop art pioneers combining primary color palettes, graphic design influenced art and the emotional angst of love and life.
Pop for the People: Roy Lichtenstein in L.A.explores how the artist, a vanguard of the Pop Art movement buoyed by a renaissance in printmaking, made fine art accessible to the American public in ways that had not been achieved before.
The exhibition also highlights Lichtenstein’s longtime collaboration with Stanley Grinstein and Sidney Felsen, cofounders of the prominent Los Angeles artists’ workshop Gemini G.E.L. Their groundbreaking printing house played a formative role in shaping the Los Angeles art scene and helped transform the city into a global center for printmaking and Pop Art.
The Skirball has transformed one of its galleries into an interactive space where visitors can step into Lichtenstein’s reimagination of Vincent van Gogh’s Bedroom at Arles, brought to life in three-dimensional form.
One of the most colorful and cool Fall celebrations is Dia de los Muertos. Hollywood Forever Cemetery is having its annual dia de los muertos festival on its grounds on Saturday, October 29. This festival honors those who have passed on in the most celebratory and creative ways. View over 100 custom altars created by local families to honor their loved ones. Proceeds from the Turkey Trot benefit the Midnight Mission.
